OLDEST PEOPLE - WORLD RECORDS
OLDEST PEOPLE
Oldest living person (male)
Masazō Nonaka (JPN, b. 25 Jul 1905) was 112 years and 282 days
old as of 3 May 2018. A resident of Ashoro in Hokkaido, Japan, he is one of
67,800 centenarians in Japan. Masazō puts his longevity down to soaking in
thermal baths (his family owns a hot-springs inn) and eating sweets.
The record for oldest living woman – and person – is pending
approval. According to the Gerontology Research Group (see table below),
Japan’s Chiyo Miyako (b. 2 May 1901) was aged 117 years 1 day old as of 3 May
2018, and the most likely contender for the title at the time of going to
press.
